Best water mitigation software: what to look for, and where it stops

deltaV engineering · 6 Oct 2026

The best water mitigation software is usually two tools: Xactimate to price the estimate, and a job management tool for drying logs, photos and billing. Choose the job tool on field use, drying logs, and how it connects to Xactimate and your accounting. Where your own rules are still checked by hand, add a custom layer on top instead of switching tools.

01

What to look for in water mitigation software

  • Field first. Works on a phone, on site, for the tech.
  • Drying logs. Daily readings by room and material, moisture maps.
  • Photos by room. Labelled and tied to the line they prove.
  • Signatures. Work authorization signed on the first visit.
  • Xactimate connection. Scope goes to the estimate without retyping.
  • Accounting connection. Invoices and payments reach QuickBooks or your ledger.

What the estimate itself must contain is in the water damage estimate template.

04

Where water mitigation software stops

  • Your rules. Company procedures and carrier requirements that differ by job.
  • Missed rooms. Nothing forces a reading in the room next door.
  • Unsafe demolition. Hazard checks before a cut, based on the building.
  • Proof per line. Lines go out without the reading or photo behind them.
  • Retyping. Field tool, estimate, job tool and accounting don't all talk.

When a custom layer on top makes sense

Switch toolsCustom layer on top
Best forThe current tool fails at the basics. The tools work; your checks are still by hand.
DisruptionEvery tech and office user retrains.Xactimate and the job tool stay.
FitsThe vendor's workflow.Your procedures, hazard rules and carrier rules.
  1. Capture. Rooms, readings, photos and signature on the first visit.
  2. Check. Missing rooms, lines with no proof, unsafe demolition blocked.
  3. Hand off. Clean data to your estimating and job tools through the imports they support.

deltaV builds and hosts the layer; you pay a monthly retainer and your job data stays yours. Same trade as build vs buy and AI estimating tools vs a custom workflow. See workflow automation.

See it working: the water mitigation field demo takes a tech from dispatch to a priced, signed estimate on the first visit.
