AI CNC quoting software: what it does and where your data matters

deltaV engineering · 6 Oct 2026

AI CNC quoting software reads the 3D model, finds features and manufacturability issues, and estimates machine time. It can't know your machines, your past actual hours or which customers you win. Buy a quoting tool if geometry is the bottleneck. Build on your own job history if hours, intake or the handoff to the job are.

01

What AI CNC quoting software does

From vendor websites, October 2026:

ToolWhat it says it does
Paperless PartsDetects setups, holes, pockets and features from the part file; flags manufacturability issues; prices with the shop's own rules.
ToolpathAI quoting and CAM automation for CNC milling; part review, cycle time, material and cost estimates; works with Autodesk Fusion.
ProShopShop ERP with an AI assistant, Chip, that learns from the shop's own job history.

The common core: read the geometry, estimate the time, apply a cost model.

02

What job shop quoting software can't know

  • Your machines. Which cell runs it, and how fast in practice.
  • Your actual hours. What similar parts really took on your floor.
  • Your customers. Who pays on time, who changes the drawing twice.
  • Your wins. Which prices won, which lost, and by how much.
  • Your inbox. RFQs that arrive as email with PDFs attached.

That is where shops differ, and where the margin is. It lives in your ERP, your spreadsheets and your estimator's head.

Machine shop estimating software: buy or build

Buy a quoting toolBuild on your data
StrengthGeometry, features, cycle time.Your history, rules and handoffs.

EdgeSame for every shop that buys it.Only yours.
Fits whenReading parts is the bottleneck.Hours, intake or retyping are the bottleneck.

Many shops need both. Keep the tool; build the part it can't see. Your job data stays yours.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. Does it learn from our actual hours, or only from geometry and rates?
  2. Does it read 2D drawings, or only 3D models?
  3. Does a won quote reach our ERP without retyping?
  4. Can we export our data if we leave?

How quoting automation works step by step: RFQ to quote. Already on Paperless Parts: closing the ERP gaps. More on the call: build vs buy.

Questions

Direct answers

Does AI quoting software price the job by itself?

Treat its price as a draft. Paperless Parts, for one, says estimators review every quote before it goes out (Paperless Parts CNC page, October 2026).

Can we use AI quoting with drawings instead of 3D models?

Check with each vendor which files it reads. Shops quoting from 2D PDFs need drawing reading and similar-job lookup, which a custom workflow can add.

What does custom quoting cost?

It depends on complexity and the business case. Book a call and bring a recent RFQ.
